If you’ve been following my adventures up to this point, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. It’s been my pleasure to sit down and tap out all that has been going on, albeit well after the fact. If you’re just coming in, thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoy exploring my posts and that something here speaks to your soul and maybe motivates you to go on your own self‑exploratory journey.

For me, that journey has meant going out and actually participating in the world—and I think the last twenty or so posts from Japan show that I’m well on my way to doing exactly that. I’ve been blessed beyond belief to be able to do this at this point in my life, and I’ll continue for as long as I can. After all, we all have this one life; we don’t get bonus points for bench warming.

That brings me to where things stand now.

If you read my last post, I left things pretty open‑ended. Clearly, the story continues, because you don’t buy a house, spend a winter there, and then call it good. If you know me personally or follow any of my Scott Abroad social media or Substack accounts, then you already know there’s more to come. I’ve started working on the next set of posts, with new writing planned to begin publishing around the middle of June.

My goal (knock on wood) is to have my first full winter in Japan written and published by December—just in time for the next season. After that, posting may become a bit less frequent, simply because life tends to move faster when I’m abroad.

At the same time, I’ve begun outlining another winter writing project. If all goes well, I hope to be able to make an official announcement about that soon. I’m also exploring a few other creative ideas—possibly a YouTube channel, and yes, because I’m a middle‑aged white guy, maybe even a podcast. Nothing is set in stone yet. I’m spending time working through the logistics and, more importantly, the why behind each idea before committing to anything new.

Lastly, if you enjoy my work and want to support it, the easiest way is simply to like, follow, subscribe, and share. Free and easy. If you’d like to support me financially, I would sincerely appreciate it. At some point, I’ll be posting additional material behind the paywall—archived posts, one‑off essays not suited for general release, how‑tos, and other guides. And if subscriptions aren’t your thing but you’d still like to toss a coin or two my way, you can always buy me a coffee. After all, coffee keeps the world turning.

And before I close this out, I’ll add one more thing: if you ever feel like saying hello—whether it’s to tell me where you’re reading from, what brought you here, or what this writing has stirred up for you—I’d genuinely love to hear from you. Knowing who’s out there makes this feel cozier.

Thank you—and truly, bless you—for continuing along this path with me.

—Scott

    Hi Scott,
Thanks for sharing your journey. I’ve tried to respond when I get a chance, but it just feels like it’s sent into a void and I never know if you receive.

Doing what you always wanted to do is inspirational, probably for everyone who doesn’t. No longer the solo cowboy on your stationary rocking horse. I sincerely love you and enjoy your loooonnnggg detailed blogs. I say that in a loving way, because like Joy, I also have adhd.

Right now I live vicariously through you and am a dependent on a tax form.

    Some dream, some do.

Hello Jules! I wish the messaging provided a solid confirmation. At any rate, I got your message and I’ll always respond! I’m happy you’ve followed me along on my journey and that you’ve enjoyed my long blog posts. They’ve been fun to write! Now, all you need to do is get your passport and come visit one of these winters! Hokkaido winters are like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. Also, I suspect you and Joy would get along smashingly! Cheers, and much love to you, cuz!
